The Mar Thoma Syrian Church, has been founded by Saint Thomas, one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ,
in the year A.D.52. The name “Mar Thoma” signifies the name of the founder “Saint Thomas”
and Syrian
comes from the origin of Eastern tradition of the Church. The Mar Thoma Church is one
of the historic
Churches of Christendom and belongs to the family the Lesser Eastern
Churches. The Mar Thoma
Church retains its essential Character of the Eastern Church in its
liturgy and mode of worship, its
ceremonies, rituals and traditions.
The Mar Thoma Church which began in Kerala is now grown into a church with Parishes all around
the Globe. The Head Quarters of the Church is in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India.
In Mumbai, there are more than 21 parishes of the Mar Thoma Church. The members of these
parishes provide their valuable time and support towards the effective functioning of Navjeevan.
